Adoraborealis
Swampland City
New York based (after listening to this song, we aren’t sure that’s still true?) songwriter / guitarist Mike Messer makes a lot of really great guitar-forward music under the truly spectacular nom de plume “Adoraborealis”.
Most of it has a pretty intimate and “in the room” feeling to it, but Messer is fully capable of veering into the epic and the transcendent.
“Swampland City” is a tight but vibrant little rock jam, swinging back and forth between shimmering dream-pop and dissonant counterpoint. The result is unfailingly sexy, and somehow manages to sound a bit like both New York AND the Big Easy.
“NYC, how did you ever lose your hold on me?” is a question that’s surely been asked by hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people - this writer included.
No big deal, though - if you find yourself missing it, Adoraborealis is here to give you a booster shot.
