Flashcrackers
One Card Down EP
Bay Area “dreampop” outfit The Flashcrackers are out with a 4 song EP that arrives at just the right moment. Outside the window this morning, as I’m listening with coffee in hand, it’s all grey, cold-humid, overcast, heavy.
Look away from the window, turn to your phone for distraction, and the ambiance isn’t much different. In moments like this, The Flashcrackers scratch an itch that is hard to define.
There are elements of shoegaze and indie rock here, and more than a little bit to remind you of The Church, which is the thing that drew us in most immediately and boosted this EP to the top of the pile today.
Let the singles and the deliriously pretty “When We Used To Sing” draw you in, but don’t sleep on “Cowboy Guns”, a disarmingly evocative out-track. “Resolution cast… every day’s the last… last of this life” is still echoing in my head this morning.
This is a strong 4 song outing that will leave you wanting more.
